Go Green Day
Saturday, April 21st, 160 George students volunteered at Go Green Day, GW’s 5th annual day of service. This year, students planted 15 trees, perennials and pruned the existing 171 trees on campus. The GW students worked hard to make their school grounds beautiful and demonstrated great pride in their school community. Go Green Day was sponsored by the GW Grounds and Gateway Committee, who have worked to enrich the campus with different landscaping projects since 2007.

Speech and Debate State Results Contratulations to Senior Dan Morgan-Russell, who successfully defended his 2011 state championship in international Extemp, again bringing back-to-back state championships to GW. Last year, GW also had back-to-back champions in CXers Miles Owens and Sam Clark, who went on to become national champions as well. GWSD sent 24 students to the State Speech and Debate tournament in Fort Collins on March 16-17. Ten patriots finished in the elimination rounds of competition. Congratulations to all our patriots, to coach Mayrose Kohan, and to assistant coach Greg Sobetski for a job well done! State Champion/1st Place: 2nd place: Semifinals (tied for third) 8th Place: 10th Place: Octafinals (9th-16th place, not ranked) Sextodecimofinals:
GWSD had 13 students participating in the House and of those, 9 were chosen to attend the super session, which is a special honor for those students who give the most articulate and compelling speeches. Nationals qualifiers are drawn from super session participants. It's therefore a great accomplishment that GW was able to send so many of our team to the super session. By comparison, the other two largest schools at the tournament combined for only 8 representatives in the super session.
